Changing to Meet the Needs of Northern Nevada Students

Over the past 50 years, Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada has changed dramatically. Our purpose has not.

Junior Achievement continues to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives. Still, Junior Achievement recognizes that changes are occurring all the time...especially changes in kids. Impacting students means responding to kids' needs and interests by modifying programs and providing the up-to-date tools they need to succeed. This approach includes not only upgrading and improving existing programs but also looking for new, creative ways to meet the needs of an ever changing student population.

Junior Achievement began with a singular approach to economic education: the Company Program, an after school program providing students with hands-on economic lessons. Today, this singular approach has evolved into multiple approaches that include sequential curricula for grades K-12, after school programs, Job Shadowing, and our newest cutting edge project "Back-To-The-Future".

Students are now reaping the benefits of a comprehensive approach as we touch the lives of more and more Northern Nevada students. Additionally, Junior Achievement is continuously developing new programs in response to the rapidly changing business world. JA Titan and Groundhog Job Shadow Day are new programs that turn student aspirations into reality. Additionally, here at the local level we are creating a ground breaking program that takes the Job Shadowing concept to it's logical conclusion by providing students with real life work experience. To continue changing with our students, Junior Achievement has identified several new focal points of growth: the evaluation of program impact, the renaissance of the high school programs, the integration of technology, and the development of organizational leadership. Add to these the our most recent chapter which is real-life work experience and we have the complete K-12 package meeting the needs of all students in Northern Nevada.

With the new millennium, kids will have bigger dreams. Junior Achievement's relevant economic education will help make those dreams a reality.
